The 2009 remake brings Jason to a more modern timeline. The reboot changes Jason's birthdate to June 13th, 1969 and returns him to a more human like appearance like in the first four films in the original series. This version of Jason is a far more intelligent version of the killer and is the first depiction of his in the franchise to actually run after and chase his victims as compared to the classic slasher villain stalk. This version of Jason is a quick lean killer who utilizes traps and tunnels around Camp Crystal Lake to dispatch his victims. Living in the camp for years, he gets around the camp fast through the tunnels and can easily travel from the old, abandoned camp grounds to the main characters' cabin in the film. Similar to the original franchise, this version wore both a burlap sack and hockey mask, but this one has both appearing in the film. He still wields his icon machete but just like the original films will use anything at his disposal to kill his victims. The 2009 remake also shows a more sympathetic side of Jason, displaying his love for his mother Pamela but still displays his menace as a masked serial killer. He kidnaps a young woman named Whitney in the film after killing her friends due to her resemblance of his mother Pamela. This later gets the better of him as she uses this to distract him and stab him with his machete, though this does not result in his death as he reemerges from Crystal Lake to grab Whitney right as the film ends.
